nLite is a program that allows you to slipstream (integrate) or remove windows updates and components from the original (Windows 2000, XP, 2003 Server) setup Disc. You can also create unnattended (automatic) Windows Installations, integrate drivers and patches.
The main reason for using nLite is for slipstreaming serial ata drivers for hard drive to the original installation, because XP lets you load those driver during the setup using a floppy drive, a device that isnt common on portables.
However with the release of Windows Service Packs, nLite become really useful for restoring windows without the hassle of then install all service packs or even configuring regional settings.
nLite is also used to remove windows components, the main reason for this is to save space, unfortunatelly this measure could aso reduce the operating system compatibility and security.
The program user interface is easy to use for even first time users because it divide its function and process in "steps" that you can skip if you dont want to modify one of those settings.
nLite doesnt support Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, those operating systems are supported on vLite, another version of nLite built for them.
